International Stage Racing Camp
– Learn how to transform your hard training into results in international competition –
Learn to put your hard-earned training to good use when it matters most! As an athlete you take your training seriously and work hard: completing intervals, hitting your numbers, and building a high level of fitness. When it’s time to pin a number on your back, can you effectively turn that fitness into real results across the finish line? Can you do it in the greatest test of all: the unforgiving environment of international competition?
La Habana del Este Stage Race
Work with experienced coaches – including your own – as well as former pros to learn how to race an international stage race. This camp is centered around the four-day La Habana del Este stage race in Cuba, and teaches participating athletes everything they need to know about how to handle and succeed in an international stage race.
You will come away from this camp with the knowledge and experience to:
- Properly adjust your training and rest coming into a stage race
- Race tactics and strategy
- Meal planning and nutrition
- Power monitoring during races
- Teamwork: how to collaborate with teammates, often on a composite team where you don’t know each other, to have success both personally and collectively
- Pack positioning
- How to conserve energy and when to spend it
- Daily routine
- Handling setbacks and bad luck
- Performing lead outs
- Planning for a stage route you haven’t seen before
Athletes will be surrounded by expert coaching staff at all times: from on the bike within the race, following in team support vehicles, and on the sidelines. Each night will feature presentations from different coaches on a variety of topics, along with a nightly post-stage review and planning for the following day. Learn from an illustrious coaching staff, including such notable names as Mike Fraysse, two-time US Olympic Team Manager and one of the founding fathers of modern American cycling; as well as Mike Norton, former career professional rider with 15+ years coaching experience; additional staff including celebrity pro riders to be added soon.
